Here's a note from a Polish friend about Krakow, a city I LOVED. I went for Thanksgiving, just when the Christmas market opened and fell in love with the city, the pottery, and the food. In addition to the list below, we hit the famous salt mines, which were quite incredible although you are trapped until the end of the lengthy tour. We also had dinner at a few chain and independent cafes in our guide book. If I can find the names, I´ll also post them. And we used Freebookers to find the perfect 1 bed apartment, close to the center:

1. Cafe Camelot is perfect for breakfast and lunch, or an afternoon
tea. Other places on that street are great too. Just google Cafe
camelot
Krakow and you will find it.
2. Alchemia cafe is grungy but great on a dark, grey evening. Live
music can be fun.
3. You will obviously hit the Christmas market in the main square. Try
to go upstairs to the cafe in Sukiennice (or the pretty building in
the middle of the square). It's a really nice view from there. They
should have blankets and heating lamps for you!
4. Do the Auschwitz tour, it's worth seeing.
5. Eat lots of food, and drink lots of vodka! :) The market square
should be selling sausages, pierogies, great winter food to keep you
warm..
It is by far the city that is closest to my heart.. I was born and
raised not too far from there! Where are you staying??? I have some
great places to stay too, but I am sure by now you have that figured
out.
